I'm not afraid to tackle home-improvement projects myself. And I like the satisfaction of doing things on my own. But because of my skill level, confidence or limited time, there are times when I need to call a professional. Home Depot is about to make that easier with their acquisition of Red Beacon.
Red Beacon is an online and app-based service that provides homeonwers with multiple competitive quotes from pre-screened local plumbers, painters, electricians and more.

In what we consider to be a powerful one-two punch, CI entered into a strategic alliance with Acquisio this week.
The partnership is great for our clients as well as Acquisio's. We can tap into the search, social and display advertising services from Acquisio. And our new partner will expand its platform for agencies with the support of CI Shopping Engines and CI Product Search solutions.
"I have today off. Need to both start and finish my Christmas shopping today. I think I can do it!"
I saw that Facebook post from a friend this morning, and could tell she was talking about the physical act of getting in the car, driving from store to store and then schlepping home with a bunch of big bags. Some people love doing that, and others recoil in horror at the thought of fighting mall traffic a week before Christmas.
I'm somewhere in between. That's why I've been waiting for today: Free Shipping Day.
There is definitely a trip to the mall in my future, because I do like getting out there and feeling the energy. It's fun to see things in person, browse the aisles and interact with people. I just can't do it for more than a couple hours.
Thanks to my iPhone and Evernote, I have a list of gift ideas that I add to little by little as things pop into my head. So it's not a question of what I'm going to buy. I just have to get around to it. And today is the day when I get around to knocking out a big chunk of my shopping online.
Check out the ginormous list of retailers participating in FSD this year. With that many stores in the game, surely you can find a few things you're looking for. It will feel good to cross them off your list. And as a bonus, you can save some time, gas and aggravation.
Just keep one thing in mind as you shop: No one wants a fruitcake.
